Mellow Music was created in 2003 and is the brainchild of South African songstress, Melanie Lowe. The company was initially started with the primary aim of managing Melanie’s own music career, however, over the years, Mellow Music’s focus has started shifting and branching into other areas of the music industry. Melanie is no stranger to the challenges young people face, when trying to make it on their own, especially if they don't know where to start, and she’s become increasingly aware of how difficult it is for young, up and coming artists to kickstart their careers. 

With that in mind, Melanie approached a friend at Online Retail Consultants to discuss the possibility of building a website that would cater to artists of all genres, providing them with a platform to showcase themselves, at no cost to the artists. Her hopes were to make South African talent more accessible to both local and international clients, while giving unknown artists a means of reaching prospective contacts and clients. The website was built and Mellow Music Management and Booking Agency came into being. The Mellow Music website began to grow as more and more emails found their way into Melanie’s inbox, from eager artists looking for help but Melanie was still not satisfied that she was doing enough.

It was obvious that most of the artists didn’t know how to write a comprehensive biography and the majority of them did not even possess one. She also noticed that most of them had no professional photos to promote themselves with and even fewer had good quality demos to showcase  their music. With less than the basics to start with, they had no hopes of securing any work, let alone a recording contract, so Melanie started making plans to build an office and a studio in her back garden where she could focus specifically on helping artists build up their portfolios. The next logical step, it seemed, was to make Mellow Music a record label to take things a step further for the artists she was helping and that is where Mellow Music currently stands. 

Mellow Music has artists of every genre and age group. We have award winning artists, newcomers, seasoned performers, musicians who have masters in up to 8 different instruments, songwriters who have yet to have their songs sung and singers who have yet to grace a stage but two things that they ALL have in common is passion and talent. At the heart of it all, Mellow Music's desire is that all our artists LIVE THE MUSIC and that is what we hope to help them do.
